DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

The University Center for Students with Disabilities was opened on 20 March 2008. The Center was the first organization of this type in the region and the University of Belgrade showed that it is one of the leaders in the field of improving the position of students with disabilities in Serbia. The main goal of the Center is to provide support to students with disabilities so that they can have equal opportunities for a quality higher education, which refers to:

The development and improvement of the conditions for studying for students with disabilities;

Providing support for reading, scanning and transforming the textbooks into audio and electronic formats for students with disabilities;

Providing support for translation into sign language;

Providing information for students with disabilities on the conditions for studying and ways of support at their home faculties, helping them when choosing a future faculty, providing them with information on the employment possibilities upon graduation;

Organizing seminars, public panels, and media coverage to motivate students with disabilities to enroll in studies, as well as to raise public awareness in Serbia of the issues and challenges that students with disabilities face on a daily basis;

Cooperating with the relevant institutions to make the position of disabled students better and more visible.

The University of Belgrade will continue to develop the Center, together with all relevant institutions, to improve the quality of services offered by the Center and raise them to the level of similar centers in the world.

We are certain that this is one of the key steps for a significant improvement of the position of students with disabilities and hope that other Serbian universities will recognize these efforts and focus on similar challenges.
