The University of Belgrade has filed a criminal complaint with the Higher Public Prosecution Office in Belgrade against as yet unidentified individuals behind the website https://www.belgradedu.com/srb/
The complaint was filed on the grounds of suspicion that the individuals involved committed the criminal offenses of unauthorized use of another party’s business name and fraud by unlawfully using the name, coat of arms, and other elements of the University of Belgrade’s identity, as well as by falsely representing themselves. The website in question falsely presents itself as the “Official Representation and Office of the University of Belgrade for Student Admissions in the Republic of Türkiye.” The University of Belgrade emphasizes that it does not have a representative office in Türkiye and that the individuals operating the website have not been authorized to act on behalf of the University.
Of particular concern is the fact that the website offers prospective students a specific application and enrollment process, collects their personal data, and requests payments allegedly intended for the University of Belgrade, while promising them an “official letter of admission.” The website also publishes purported tuition fees for several faculties of the University of Belgrade.
In its criminal complaint, the University has requested that the competent authorities establish the identity of the individuals behind the website, determine how the website was created and used, and investigate any potential financial transactions and the use of prospective students’ personal data.
We urge all prospective applicants to obtain information about admission requirements, tuition fees, and all official procedures exclusively through the official University of Belgrade website https://www.bg.ac.rs/ and the official websites of its faculties.
