When talking about the ranking of universities in world lists, it is important to emphasize that in addition to the Shanghai list (Academic Word Ranking University List – ARWU list), which is considered one of the most influential, there are other relevant lists such as: Taiwan list (eng. National Taiwan University Ranking), URAP list (Eng. University ranking by Academic Performance), US NEWS list (Eng. Best Global Universities badge), SIR list (Eng. The SCImago Institutions Rankings) and CWUR list (Eng. Center for World University Rankings) , The most common ranking criteria are the number of winners of various prestigious awards (e.g. Nobel Prizes), research productivity and excellence, citations, international cooperation, quality of teaching, research reputation and social impact.

According to the results of the most significant international university rankings, the University of Belgrade maintains its position as one of the leading universities in the region and continues to be highly ranked at the global level. According to the CWUR Ranking for 2026, the University of Belgrade is ranked 393rd among 19,788 universities evaluated, placing it among the top 1.9% of universities worldwide. According to the SIR (SCImago Institutions Rankings) for 2026, it is ranked 404th among 5,491 institutions (among the top 9.8%), while according to the URAP Ranking for 2025, it is ranked 318th among 3,000 universities (among the top 10% worldwide).

The University of Belgrade’s high ranking is primarily the result of its continuous scientific output, research quality, and international visibility of research achievements. The University achieves particularly strong results in the fields of dentistry, veterinary sciences, food science and food engineering, metallurgical engineering, agricultural sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences.

In the US News Best Global Universities Rankings 2026–2027, the University of Belgrade is ranked 451st among 2,005 ranked universities, placing it among approximately the top 25% of universities worldwide. This achievement is significantly supported by outstanding results in specific fields, including Food Science and Technology (118th place), Cardiac and Cardiovascular Systems, Public Health and Occupational Health (70th/93rd place), Endocrinology and Metabolism (171st place), as well as Pharmacology and Toxicology (184th place).

According to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU, Shanghai Ranking) for 2025, the University of Belgrade is positioned in the 401–500 range among the world’s top universities, placing it among approximately the top 15% of globally ranked institutions. The University achieved its strongest results in the fields of Metallurgical Engineering (76–100th place), Food Science and Technology (101–150th place), and Clinical Medicine (101–150th place).
