The University of Belgrade shall have its Coat of Arms, flag, seal, Rector's insignia, academic dress (Rector’s Toga) and ceremonial gowns, appropriate to the degree to be received. The decision on the design and ornamentation of the Coat of Arms, the flag and the seal of the University shall be made by the University Council.
The Rector’s insignia shall be worn by the Rector in ceremonies which the Rector chairs or in which he/she represents the University. The academic dress shall be worn by the Rector, or a Vice-Rector, in the absence of the Rector, in the ceremonies held at the University. Ceremonial gowns shall be worn by persons receiving a doctoral degree or a title of a full professor, or those being awarded honorary doctorates by the University, as well as in other ceremonies, as decided by the Rector.
Within the scope of their activities, other higher education institutions, members of the University of Belgrade, shall have a right and an obligation to use the name, the Coat of Arms and the flag of the University, as well as to incorporate them, in part or in entirety, into their own symbols.
The University of Belgrade celebrates September 13th as its anniversary, in remembrance of the day when, lectures started at the College in Belgrade in 1808.
