Culture and Sports

Apart from the regular faculty courses, student life also includes many other activities. It is very important to meet students’ needs in all aspects of cultural activities, especially arts and sports. There are two institutions in Belgrade organizing such activities – Cultural Centre Studentski Grad and Student Cultural Centre.

Founded in 1971, Cultural Centre Studentski grad is both cultural and
educational institution which organizes scientific, literary, theatrical, film, musical and visual arts programmes, as well as workshops on different topics. Sometimes, language courses or courses related to some specific art fields are organized. All programmes are free to attend.

The Centre disposes of a library and a reading-room, which works round the clock during the examination period. Similar activities are organized at the Student Cultural Centre, founded in 1968. The Centre also includes a library for foreign periodicals. Almost 500 programmes are realized each year, often in cooperation with similar institutions from abroad. Depending on the students’ interests, courses are organized in different fields of art.
Students can take an active part in various forms of creative activities in two cultural clubs.

Academic Cultural Club Branko Krsmanović was founded in 1945. It includes choir Obilić, founded in 1884 and the Academic Theatre, founded in 1922. There is also a traditional dance ensemble and a traditional music ensemble. Numerous stage appearances and concerts are carried out each year, often abroad, where the Cultural Club has won reputation, prizes and awards. Academic Cultural Club Žikica Jovanović – Španac, was founded in 1954. The Club comprises a traditional dance ensemble, academic choir, theatre DES and a traditional orchestra. Due to numerous stage appearances in the country and abroad they have won many prizes and awards. Both academic cultural clubs are always open for admission of new members. The University Sports Association, founded in 1953, is responsible for all sporting events. This association brings together all sports clubs formed at faculties and student dormitories.

Sporting events are realized through regular competitions and activities
of sports clubs. Two enclosed sports halls at the Faculty of Philosophy
and at student dormitory 4. April, and open-air sports grounds at student
dormitories Miка Mitrović Karaburma, 4. April, and at the Student Sports
Centre are at students’ disposal.

Student Sports Centre also includes two football fields, one five-a-side
football field, two tennis courts, two team handball and basketball courts
and the belonging dressing-rooms.

The recreation for students is organized at open-air sports grounds. The
University Sports Association compensates the lack of sports halls by selling tickets for swimming or other sports activities at reduced prices.
